Velaris Street Food: Spiced Meatballs

In a city like Velaris, where each Quarter is meant to be walked through and experienced, you cannot tell me that there wouldn’t be street food vendors. I refuse to believe that there wouldn’t be luscious grilled meats, and snacky bite sized portions of delectable munchies strategically placed throughout the city.

Without further adeu, I present to you: Spiced Meatballs.

Maybe you would purchase these in a little bowl with some tangy yogurt dipping sauce. Or perhaps you’d grab them on a stick, fresh off the grill stand. These spicy meatballs are a great lunch snack or dinner treat, whether you’re touring Velaris, or sitting at home.

Ingredients

  1. 1lb ground beef, 80/20

  2. 1 egg white

  3. 1/2 small sized red onion

  4. Rough measurements: 1 tsp Lebanese 7 spice, 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp black pepper, 1/2tsp turmeric

  5. Optional: red pepper flakes

Spices

In a bowl, combine all ingredients using your hands. It is worth it to get messy here, wear gloves if you like, but mixing the ground beef and spices together by hand, you ensure there are no spice mounds or naked unspiced areas in the meat. You want this well incorporated and the onions as evenly distributed as possible.

Hand Mixed

Begin rolling the meat into meatballs any size you like.

Method of cooking is entirely up to preference. You can skewer these and grill them, oven bake them, or skillet cook them. Each method yields a different kind of flavor and texture. Grilled is my favorite, but today I cooked them inside on the stove.

Meatballs meet Skillet

So on medium low, I filled my skillet so they could still be moved around but otherwise fit well. Brown on all sides until done all the way through.

I ate mine alongside some lemon ginger quinoa with green onions and Brussel sprouts leaves and it was a perfect protein packed spicy lunch.
