Adventure Begins!

Mia Garlock

My day started at 1:00am this morning.

I got into bed last night at 9:30pm, mine and Bestie’s bags packed and ready to go the next day. We shared a gigantic suitcase that we found goodwill for $50 a month or two ago. Somehow, we managed to still be under fifty pounds even with both of us packing for a full 5 days. We just good like that.

We hit the road, her husband, I call him Grizz, because he is a teddy bear with teeth, and her daughter and chattered the entire drive there, because let’s face it we were way too hype to try and nap along the way. We left super duper early, because we anticipated a lot of traffic and tomfoolery on the highway. There’s a lot of construction on the main stretch we would be traveling, and we left an extra 2 hours early just to be on the safe side. We made great time, and aside from having to deal with a few unruly truck drivers, we were safe and arrived to O’Hare at around 4am.

And then we waited.

And waited some more.

And goofed off. And did Mobility so our asses wouldn’t fall asleep instantly once we boarded. It helped a lot, I didn’t get airplane-butt for a single second while we were on the flight. I did dump out a ton of water from my water bottle down the inside of my sleeve, and that sucked… but that was the only downside, truly.

I took a bunch of pictures! Both in the airport and on the plane, and then again once we landed and we met up with our fellow Valkyries and driver, Val, and Morgyn. I adore them both. We went out to lunch with Val’s friend who is from the area, at a delicious restaurant called Comida. I loved their mocktails and their allergen friendly menu, which was freaking amazing. I had the shredded sirloin black bean bowl and their house chips and pineapple salsa, with their honeysuckle lime margarita mocktail, which was truly chefs kiss, amazing.

We finally met Sam! and her sisters, and Bex, and Cheyenne, and I got some of the best hugs! The events don’t really happen until tomorrow evening, so it was a brief hello and introduction and then we checked into our room and showered. We are pooped. We’ve slept almost nothing at all and have full bellies and I’m ready to pass out for the night.
