4th of July

Mia Garlock

It was a long and lazy day of humidity and trying to fill the time before dinner with family and the usual small fireworks box that accompanies it on this day.

For me, after living in Alaska for a decade and never once seeing fireworks in July, but ALWAYS in the dead of winter for the New Year... I kinda just feel like fireworks are lackluster in the summer sky vs winter.

I'm all about the Cookout and beach time in the sun and Popsicles and iced tea. But the fireworks just irk me- there's always someone nearby loud and drunk and setting off fireworks until 2am. Maybe that's just life in the sticks here, but damn it's bothersome when you have little kids and a dog who hates the explosions.

Yrsa hid in about 18 different places as the neighbors set off their fireworks.

In 2 days, it's my anniversary with my husbeard. We will have been hitched for 14 years. Damn. I've known him since I was 15, and hated him, became best friends with him, fell madly in love with him. Grew up with him. Started a family. Struggled. Fought. Loved harder.

I better cut this post short before I get sappy as fuck about being married.

Time for cocoa and bed, and Mace drills in the morning.
